Govt Mps Slam Hamzah For Raising Addendum Order In Parliament
The government backbenchers club (BBC) has slammed opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin for raising the addendum order issue in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
They claimed the Larut MP’s statement accusing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of committing treachery against the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong was an attempt to pit the government against the royal institution.
“This sort of slander not only signifies political immaturity but can also sow discord between the government and the royal institution, besides damaging the country’s image.
“The opposition chief should be more responsible when making a statement, do not make baseless accusations just to score political points,” said BBC chairperson Shahar Abdullah during a press conference held at the Parliament earlier today.
‘Stating facts is not treason’
According to Shahar, who is Paya Besar MP, Anwar has confirmed that he did not receive the order for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to serve the remainder of his jail time under house arrest from the previous king, Pahang’s Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
“The prime minister has also stressed that matters concerning the addendum order are under the purview of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, not under his responsibility as the prime minister.
“Stating facts cannot be construed as treason,” he said.
BBC chairperson Shahar AbdullahAdding further, Shahar said Anwar has always shown high regard towards the monarchy and strongly holds onto the constitutional monarchy principle in his administration.
All actions the government had taken so far were also in line with the country’s constitution and for the country’s best interest, he stressed.
“Thus, we stress that the allegation made by the opposition chief was untrue and made in bad faith to incite the rakyat.
“The rakyat has to reject such dirty politics and instead focus on the agenda to further develop our country,” Shahar said.
Yesterday, chaos erupted in the Dewan Rakyat after Hamzah raised the royal addendum issue and alleged the government had been insolent against the monarchs.
Following a shouting match, Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul then barred MPs from speaking about the royal addendum issue.
He also ruled that MPs cannot use the word “derhaka” (insolence) in the august house. - Mkini
