Ge15 Moment Of Mirth As Anwar Answers Humorous Tweet On Relationship With Mahathir
While it may have been a black mark on Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) history, the alleged reluctance of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to hand over the prime ministership to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains a source of humour for the internet. -File PicKUALA LUMPUR: While it may have been a black mark on Pakatan Harapan's (PH) history, the alleged reluctance of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to hand over the prime ministership to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains a source of humour for the internet.
A Twitter user, in a biting demonstration of political commentary, today weighed in on the ongoing "will they, won't they" possible cooperation between Dr Mahathir's Gabungan Tanah Air (GTA) and PKR for the 15th General Election (GE15).
Although it is unclear if Anwar is interested in collaborating with his former mentor turned nemesis turned ally and enemy again, the former Port Dickson member of parliament has dropped a sign on his latest Twitter post tonight.
Twitter user @pipiyapong wrote: "Anwar should just collaborate with Mahathir. After that, make a promise to make Mahathir the prime minister after two years."
In response to the tweet, Anwar responded with an "ok" symbol/emoji to which PKR youth chief Adam Adli tweeted a laughing emoji.
Twitter user @amuse_gueule, believed to be a PKR member, had asked Anwar to make a decision soon regarding Dr Mahathir's offer for a GE15 cooperation.
"Datuk Seri, (you) have to decide as soon as possible because a 'macai' (party worker) like me still doesn't know if we should attack Tun (Dr Mahathir) or not.
"Kindly expedite this matter soonest possible. Thank you, ahead of time."
Another Twitter user @SetiaKeadilan told @amuse_gueule that it was clear that Anwar was "joking" and posted a photo of PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution saying PH would go to GE15 without Dr Mahathir.
However, given the fluidity of the national political arena, @amuse_gueule pointed out that Saifuddin's remark made six days ago can't be seen as confirmation.
"News from six days ago cannot be used already for a rumour that has been given a new life."
The guessing game on whether Anwar and PH would accept Dr Mahathir's olive branch has been the talk of the country for the past few weeks.
It started when Dr Mahathir said he was ready to meet with anyone from PH but so far, he has yet to receive a positive response from the opposition pact.
After two decades of animosity, Dr Mahathir and Anwar formed a cooperation in GE14 which helped PH to capture the federal government from Barisan Nasional (BN).
However, about two years after helming Putrajaya, PH lost the federal administration after its former ally Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, of which Dr Mahathir wad chairman, exited the coalition to form a new government with BN, Pas and Gabungan Parti Sarawak.
With that, Dr Mahathir's promise of making way for Anwar to become the next prime minister died a natural death when the former resigned as prime minister.
Although Dr Mahathir said he meant to keep his promise to make way for Anwar to hold the country's top post, supporters of the PKR president remained suspicious of the former Langkawi MP. - NST
