Fully Implement New Minimum Wage Sabah Umno Leader Tells State Govt

(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: A Sabah Umno leader has urged the state government to fully implement the new minimum wage for all permanent and part-time workers.
Tawau Umno chief Ghazalie Ansing said there were some workers in Sabah who still earned less than the previous RM1,200 minimum wage set in February 2020.
“There remain workers who are neglected and continue to earn well below the previous minimum wage. Their wages have not changed for the last 20 years,” he said in a statement today.
Citing workers at an agency under the Sabah agriculture department, he said their RM968 monthly salary had not changed since 2002.
“What is the state government’s policy on this? The federal government had previously set the minimum wage at RM1,200 and will be increasing it now to RM1,500.
“These workers deserve a salary increase to support their families in light of the increasing prices of goods,” he said.
Ghazalie noted that after the 11% deduction for the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), these workers had a take home salary of only RM840.
He urged the Sabah government to immediately increase their salaries and provide the relevant allowances.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the new minimum wage of RM1,500 would take effect on May 1 and involve companies in the private sector that had five employees or more. - FMT
