Ft Ministry To Discuss With Traders On Lowering Chicken Price

(Shahidan Kassim Facebook pic)KUALA LUMPUR: The federal territories ministry will discuss with chicken traders on ways to reduce their problems so that they will be able to sell at a price lower than the ceiling price.
Its minister Shahidan Kassim said the discussion would be held at the premises of the ministry, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Putrajaya Corporation and Labuan Corporation.
“The ceiling price for chicken now is RM9.40 per kg, but in other states, chickens (on average) are sold much lower than the ceiling price. For example in Perlis, they are sold at RM9.04. The lowest price is in Pahang at RM8.95,” he told reporters after observing the Jualan Rakyat MyGrocer@Wilayah programme at the Sri Johor public housing here.
He said this was among the proposed steps to be taken by the ministry in its efforts to ease the burden of consumers in the federal territories.

He also said that his ministry was reviewing several measures to overcome the problem and would announce the best approach by next week.
Meanwhile, Shahidan said the six-month Jualan Rakyat MyGrocer@Wilayah programme, which began today, would be held at all public housing and people’s housing projects in the capital and selected shops in Labuan.
It involved an allocation of RM3.48 million, where subsidies of RM3 are given per bird and 50 sen given for every 10 Grade B eggs.
Meanwhile, in a separate event, agriculture and food industries minister Ronald Kiandee said whole chicken imports rose by 80% in June to 471 metric tons compared to 258 metric tons in May following the abolishment of the approved permits (AP) and the suspension of permit fees that began last month.
He said imports of chicken parts also rose by 30% last month to 10,200 metric tons from 7,800 metric tons in May.
He said the food importation procedure, which had been simplified by the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services, had sped up the process of bringing in whole chickens.
“Chicken supply in our country is stable,” he told the media after checking out the import and export operations of agricultural and livestock products at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) cargo complex here.
On whether the ceiling price of RM9.40 per kg of chicken in Peninsular Malaysia could be reduced as chicken prices have stablised, Kiandee said the price depended on market forces like the costs of livestock feed. - FMT
