From Loud Roars To Soft Purrs Gerakan Leader Says Dap Lost Its Voice
Perak Gerakan deputy chairperson Naran Singh has delivered a scathing rebuke to DAP, accusing the party of betraying the spirit of justice and the hopes of Malaysians who once saw it as a fearless force against institutional abuse.
He criticised the party’s leaders for what he described as a hollow and symbolic gesture of bowing their heads in “sorrow and respect” over the death of Teoh Beng Hock, without demanding true accountability from those responsible.
Naran also expressed confusion over DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke’s statement that the government’s “goodwill” contribution does not mark the end of the pursuit of justice for the late political aide.
“What does he mean by that? Who will now champion the justice that DAP had long demanded before coming to power?” he asked in a statement to Malaysiakini.

Naran SinghNaran pointed out that Teoh’s family, along with countless Malaysians who stood by DAP, did not place their faith in the party only to see its leaders now bow in silence.
“The people did not empower DAP just to see its leaders bow in sorrow. They expected a party that would walk tall with its head held high, shout louder, and force the system to answer.
“They voted for a party that once took to the streets, roared in Parliament, and dared to confront power head-on. They wanted warriors for justice, not mediators for goodwill offerings,” he added.
‘No more tigers in DAP, just lapcats’
Now, Naran argued, that fire has dimmed and made an unmistakable reference to the late DAP chairperson Karpal Singh, famously known as the “Tiger of Jelutong”.
“It is nothing short of tragic that a party which once gave birth to tigers when it had a handful of seats has now been reduced to a den of lapcats, even with 40 seats in hand,” he said.

He accused DAP of succumbing to political complacency and losing its edge now that it is part of the ruling coalition.
This marks the second time that the Perak Gerakan leader has taken aim at DAP.
ADSOn July 10, Naran slammed the party for its silence over calls to establish a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the judiciary.
No strings attached
Yesterday, Loke and three other party leaders - vice-chairperson Teo Nie Ching, Selangor DAP chief Ng Sze Han, and Teoh’s former boss, Ean Yong Hian Wah - bowed for about a minute at the tail end of a press conference.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke (centre) during the press conference yesterdayLoke said the public apology by MACC to Teoh’s family and its offer to provide contributions to help the deceased’s son showed the Madani government’s sincerity.
“I want to stress that the offer of a goodwill contribution in no way means that we are closing the case. The case remains unresolved, it remains open, and it means in no way, by accepting the contribution, that they are satisfied or have agreed to settle the case. Not at all.
“The goodwill contribution is a form of aid and contribution by the government to the needs of Teoh’s son, who is 15 this year. This is something we hope that the Teoh family can consider, and sincerely, we hope they can consider,” he added. - Mkini
