Fresh Video Links Star Deputy President To Rm300k Bribe
Less than a month before the Sabah state election, businessperson Albert Tei released a video implicating Star deputy president Robert Tawik in the state’s mining licence scandal.
The video, uploaded on the “Pejuang Tun Dr Mahathir” Facebook page today, allegedly depicts a conversation between Tei and Tawik in the latter’s office, with the duo discussing an amount of money which the businessperson claimed to have handed to the politician.
“I have given Datuk (Tawik) RM300,000 - not counting sponsors,” Tei can be heard saying before checking his WhatsApp and citing four transactions between Feb 2 and May 12, 2023.
While Tei appeared to say in jest that he was not asking for the money back, an apparently jovial Tawik allegedly remarked that it would be pointless for Tei to demand reimbursement, as the money had been spent.
“Finished la… (During) Kaamatan, it was finished, money cannot be kept,” Tawik, who is also the incumbent Bingkor assemblyperson, allegedly said.
Based on the clip of the conversation, Tawik also supposedly mentioned several other politicians, including fellow Star deputy president Ellron Alfred Angin, caretaker Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor, and caretaker Sabah works minister Shahelmey Yahya.

Businessperson Albert TeiTawik is Shahelmey’s assistant in the state ministry. The official dissolution of the 16th Sabah state assembly was on Oct 6.
Malaysiakini has contacted Tawik regarding the allegations in the video and is awaiting a response.
Recordings implicating GRS politicians
Previously, Tawik was one of the politicians implicated by a source who furnished Malaysiakini with screenshots purportedly taken from video recordings involving a total of six accused leaders.
At the time, Malaysiakini was also shown brief excerpts of the recordings from January 2024, but was not allowed to reproduce them.
The source claimed that the total amount of bribes involved for the six politicians was RM3.96 million.
In addition to the video evidence, the source alleged that WhatsApp messages and other documents exist to corroborate the transactions.
Since last November, more than a dozen Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) politicians - including senior state cabinet members - have been linked to the mining scandal.
Tei and two assemblypersons have since been charged, while the fate of the remaining figures remains uncertain, prompting critics to allege a possible cover-up.
Sabah voters will cast their ballots on Nov 29, with nomination day set for Nov 15. - Mkini
