Its president Josephine Hadikusumo said they had distributed 3,600 milk packets to disadvantaged children from 12 welfare homes and other non-governmental organisations (NGO) in Sabah over the past week.
"The beneficiaries are Sabah Society for the Deaf, Sabah Cheshire Home, Bondulu Children's Home (Tambunan), Care Haven Children's Home, Sky Community, Rainbow of Hope School, Seri Mengasih Centre, Tolumis Home (Tuaran), Jireh Home (Tuaran), Taman Didikan Kanak-Kanak Kurang Upaya (Kinarut), Bukit Harapan (Menggatal) and Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kota Kinabalu (Papar).
"Our contribution is in response to an 'SOS' for food aid from some of the children's home. We are sympathetic with the plight of the less privileged children and teenagers," she said in a statement today. The recipients lauded the NGO for coming forward to provide the children with an essential source of protein during these trying times.
The Society of Hope had initiated the Project Hope Milk Fund last December and it is an ongoing exercise to bring relief to families impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Previously, the NGO had given out a total of 3,000 milk powder packs to needy children from urban areas, B40 households and rural communities in various parts of Sabah under the first phase of its free milk project.
These included Kota Kinabalu, Sembulan, Telipok, Menggatal, Tamparuli, Tuaran, Kota Belud, Matunggong, Kota Marudu and Paitan.
"We are trying to raise more aid for our Hope Milk Fund Project so that we can begin to stock up on milk powder to be distributed to more children out there.
"Our mission here is to reduce food insecurity among the hard-core poor in Sabah," she said and thanked all donors who had donated generously to support their cause.
She also said the NGO had just launched its Hope School Fund Project to raise aid for school supplies.
"It can be difficult for most of us to imagine how the most basic exercise books and stationery are considered luxury items when food is scarce.
"With the Hope Milk and School Funds projects, we hope to provide for both the mental and physical needs of the children in the state.
"I know it is a really difficult time for everyone now, which is why we are very grateful for any help the public can give. If any company or employer has a corporate social responsibility (CSR) mission, we would love for them to consider our mission and adopt it for themselves," she said.
