Fourth Apartment Complex In Klang Valley Evacuated After Landslide
Teratai Apartment in Bandar Baru Selayang, Selangor, has been evacuated following a landslide.
This is the fourth highrise in the Klang Valley to be evacuated in two weeks amid the rainy season.
The Selayang Municipal Council found the structure to be unsafe after cracks emerged following a landslide on Dec 18.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari , who visited the site on Dec 30, said the repair cost is estimated to cost RM1.5 million, according to Sinar Harian.
On Dec 26, it was reported that residents at Sri Duta I in Kuala Lumpur were also evacuated after a landslide happened near the base of the apartment blocks.
Federal Territories Minister Shahidan Kassim had also revealed that the Bangsar Indah Condominium in Kuala Lumpur was temporarily evacuated after a landslide.
On Dec 21, residents at Indahria Apartment in Shah Alam were also evacuated after it became structurally unsafe after floodwaters submerged the foundation.
Flash floods devastated parts of the country, particularly in Selangor and Pahang, after it was hit by a tropical depression on Dec 17, dumping a month's worth of rain in one day.
In low lying areas, the floodwater took several days to recede, leaving people stranded on rooftops.
The sustained rain also caused landslides at various locations.
While the tropical depression has dissipated, the country is still being lashed by the monsoon season.
At 6.30am today, the Malaysian Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a dangerous weather notice for Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin.
A dangerous warning means a rainfall of more than 240mm is expected in a single day.
Bad weather is also expected in parts of Pahang, Malacca and Johor. - Mkini
