Focus On Your Case Instead Of Asking Me To Quit Anwar Raps Muhyiddin
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has hit back at Muhyiddin Yassin for asking him to step down after Pakatan Harapan-BN’s lacklustre performance in the six state elections.
Anwar said he failed to see the logic behind the Perikatan Nasional chairperson’s remark.
“What is he talking about? We have maintained control of three states and still have a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
“I would like to advise Muhyiddin to focus on his court case,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
Anwar spoke to reporters after a ground-breaking ceremony at Bandar Tasik Selatan.
He was asked to comment on Muhyiddin’s call for him and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign following the state elections, which Muhyiddin claimed was a referendum by the people who rejected the Harapan-BN government.
The six state polls on Saturday saw the Harapan-BN front suffering huge losses, albeit managing to retain control of Selangor, Penang, and Negeri Sembilan.
Both coalitions were wiped out in Terengganu, with BN failing to win any seats in Kedah.
Asked on cooperation between the federal government and PN-controlled states moving forward, Anwar indicated his readiness to work with the respective state administrations.
However, the prime minister stressed it is important for the states to practise good governance.
“It is up to them, if they want to cooperate, then I will be too.
“But this must also be in action and not only lip service. I want to make sure they have the spirit of good governance.
“If you want money to help the poor, then you must use the allocation for the poor and not abuse them by channelling funds to other uses.
“I am strict about this,” he said. - Mkini
