Flash Floods Hit Parts Of Selangor Congestion At Puchong Toll Plaza
PETALING JAYA: Several locations around Selangor are reporting flash floods after continuous heavy rain since 2am on Friday (April 11).
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said the affected areas were Shah Alam, Klang, Kampung Sri Aman in Puchong, as well as Petaling.
The affected area in Shah Alam was Kampung Padang Jawa, which saw 0.6m of water as of 8am.
Some 20 houses were affected by the flooding.
In Klang, 10 houses were affected by flooding at Taman Seri Jaya in Kapar with eight people being moved to a temporary relief centre at SK Binjai.
In Kampung Sri Aman, Puchong, water also rose to 0.6m but began to recede by 8am.
The flooding affected 30 houses and temporarily displaced 120 people.
Ahmad Mukhlis said no decision had been made as of 8am whether or not to open a temporary relief centre there.
Another area hit by floods was Kampung Tengah in the Petaling district, which saw 20 houses effected by flood waters.
Twenty houses and six people were affected and the victims were temporarily relocated to the Putra Heights mosque to wait out the flooding.
A 75-year-old bedridden stroke patient was also evacuated from her house in Taman Iswara, Sri Muda in Shah Alam after floodwaters hit.
Firemen managed to take her to safety as soon as they arrived at the location.
At least 12 homes at Kampung Sungai Merab Luar in Kajang were inundated after continuous heavy rain.
Ahmad Mukhlis said they received an emergency call at 3.34am.
The operations team found that a flash flood had occurred, reaching a depth of 1.2m and affecting 12 houses.
“A total of 15 victims were successfully evacuated by the operations team,” he said.
He added that monitoring showed water levels in the affected area are now receding.
In a Facebook post, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) issued a warning to motorists of traffic congestion along the Puchong Barat toll.
“Residents’ vehicles are parked on the left lane at KM52.6 westbound and at Puchong Barat Toll Plaza (obstructing the two left lanes) because of flash floods in areas adjacent to the expressway.
“Traffic is congested from Puchong Selatan and Puchong Jaya heading towards USJ. Please maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front,” it said.
Several videos and photos of flash floods at Taman Mas and other nearby areas in Puchong have also gone viral on social media. - Star
