Fielding Frogs In Melaka Polls Will Cost Ph Plenty Says Waytha
Former national unity minister P Waytha Moorthy said he was shocked by the decision of PKR and Amanah to field party-hoppers.PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan may have lost the trust of many Malaysians with its decision to accept two former assemblymen who aided in the collapse of the Melaka government, says former minister P Waytha Moorthy.
Waytha, who was the national unity minister during the PH administration, said he was “shocked” with the decision of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu for agreeing to field “political frogs” at the Nov 20 Melaka elections.
“Many have lost faith in the so-called ‘change’ that PH has been talking about,” said Waytha in a Facebook post.
“I suppose the ‘real change’ is working with those who betrayed the trust placed by the rakyat in the elections for the sake of power and money.”
Waytha was referring to the former Umno duo of Idris Haron (Sungai Udang) and Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), who were among the four Melaka assemblymen who retracted support for Melaka chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali on Oct 4, paving the way for a state election.
At a press conference yesterday, PH chairman Anwar said that the coalition had named Idris and Nor Azman as candidates for the Nov 20 Melaka polls.
Former Melaka chief minister Idris has now been admitted to PKR and is a candidate for the Asahan seat, while Nor Azman is now an Amanah member and will defend his Pantai Kundor seat.
“Anwar’s acceptance of the frog culture is a disgrace to democracy,” said Waytha.
“So what was the fuss all about when Bersatu broke ranks and formed a backdoor government in 2020 with defecting PKR MPs and Umno/PAS?
“Why bother talking about party-hopping laws when you yourself condone and give recognition to these political frogs?
“At the end of the day, it’s not about principles or justice. It is about political expediency, isn’t it?” - FMT
