Our Supporters Will Vote Pn In Melaka Says Hadi
Abdul Hadi Awang says PAS had never forsaken Umno and remains a true partner under the Muafakat Nasional (MN) agreement.KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS today declared it would stand by its Perikatan Nasional (PN) allies Bersatu and Gerakan, and urged all its supporters in Melaka to vote for PN in the upcoming state polls.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said this after he was asked about Barisan Nasional’s (BN) decision to field candidates in all 28 state seats.
“That question is an assumption (that BN will field candidates in all 28 seats). We will see who will be named during nomination day.
“But our stand is firm. PN will contest and it is up to Umno if it wants to cooperate with PN or go its own way.
“Our commitment to the election machinery in Melaka is to support PN. PAS will also use the PN symbol in the polls,” he told reporters after opening the party’s muktamar, or annual general assembly here today.
Hadi, however, said there was plenty of time to negotiate ahead of the nomination day.
Hadi added that PAS had never forsaken Umno and remained a true partner under the Muafakat Nasional (MN) agreement.
“Umno changed before this when half of their MPs supported a new coalition. In the Melaka polls, I hope they can change also,” he said.
Hadi said PAS remains open to the MN framework between his party and Umno, and will consider getting others to join as well.
He said other parties that are non-Muslim and “not extreme” are welcome to join the framework.
PAS is expected to announce its candidates for the Melaka polls at 3pm in Kuala Lumpur. He said the party plans to contest at least one-third of the seats in Melaka.
Earlier today, BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan said the coalition is fielding candidates for all 28 state seats.
“We (BN) will not be working with any other party and we will use our own logo to represent the plurality of the country’s multi-racial communities.”
He said this at a press conference held at the Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, in which he also named the candidates – 20 from Umno, MCA (7) and MIC (1) – for the 28 seats.
Melaka goes to the polls on Nov 20 with early voting to start on Nov 16, while the nomination day is set for Nov 8. - FMT
