(Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: The Court of Appeal has set Feb 8 to deliver its ruling on the prosecution’s appeal against the acquittal of Samirah Muzaffar and two others charged with murdering Cradle Fund chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan five years ago.
Samirah, 48, is Nazrin’s widow.
The court will also, on the same day, rule on the trio’s appeal to challenge certain findings of facts made by the High Court. This includes a finding that someone “deliberately” set fire to Nazrin’s room.
The date was set during case management held online on Nov 16.
On Oct 23, a three-member Court of Appeal panel consisting of Justices Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera, Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim and Azhahari Kamal Ramli reserved its decision after hearing submissions from the prosecution and defence.
Shafee Abdullah, representing the three accused, completed his submission on Oct 23, while the prosecution, led by deputy public prosecutor Yusaini Amer Abdul Karim, completed its submission on Oct 17.
On June 21, 2022, the Shah Alam High Court acquitted Samirah and the two others, now aged 21 and 18, of the charges after holding that the prosecution had failed to establish its case.
The three defendants – plus an Indonesian woman, Eka Wahyu Lestari, who is still at large – were accused of killing Nazrin, 45, at his house in Mutiara Damansara between 11.30pm on June 13, 2018, and 4am the following day. - FMT
