Fake News Of Pm Suspect Grilled No Word On Anwar Muhyiddin Probe

 An individual suspected of creating a fake news graphic about Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the US trade deal has been grilled by authorities.
Meanwhile, there is still no update on the probe ordered by Anwar three months ago on whether he made fake allegations against Perikatan Nasional chief Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a statement today, the MCMC said it was probing an individual suspected of having posted a fake news item that Anwar admitted there were many flaws in the Malaysia-US trade deal he recently signed.
The fake news item used the Utusan Malaysia logo.
ADSThe suspect was questioned at the Alor Gajah district police headquarters in Malacca today and had his phone seized.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Meanwhile, yesterday marked three months since Anwar ordered the MCMC to verify whether claims he made against Muhyiddin were true or false.
Anwar, on Aug 5, claimed in Parliament that Muhyiddin had defended fuel subsidies for foreigners.
The PN chief denied making such an allegation, prompting the prime minister to order the MCMC to probe his source of information.
Malaysiakini’s checks previously found one TikTok video with the hallmarks of fake news, which made such claims against Muhyiddin.
Anwar later acknowledged in Parliament that one of his sources of information was false, but claimed there were two other sources, which he was waiting for the MCMC to verify.
He said he would only apologise after the MCMC concludes their investigation.
There have been few updates on the matter since then.
On Sept 9, the commission said it was still investigating the matter.
On Oct 15, Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid asked for an update while debating Budget 2026.
However, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil did not provide a response when wrapping up his ministry’s section of the debate on Monday. - Mkini
