Fahmi Agrees With Puad On Revamping J Kom

Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil expressed agreement with Mohd Puad Zarkashi over his call to overhaul the Community Communications Department (J-Kom) following its involvement in the Dubai Move.
The Umno supreme council member made the suggestion earlier today after the department revealed the plot to topple Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration on Saturday.
Fahmi (above, right) said there was a need to review J-Kom to prevent issues such as the Dubai Move claims attributed to J-Kom deputy director-general Ismail Yusop being spread on WhatsApp.
“Even before this issue came up, I wished to review J-Kom’s functions.
“Because it was too early still for me to make any announcements, but we have certainly seen that there needs to be an alignment of several functions and responsibilities in line with the wishes of the Madani government to be implemented by agencies, including J-Kom,” the communication minister said at a press conference after a cabinet meeting today.
In calling for the J-Kom revamp, Puad dismissed Ismail’s analysis of the Dubai Move as “shallow” and said a new competent leadership was warranted.
Cybersecurity top priority
Separately, Fahmi assured that cybersecurity is a top priority in commenting on the registration process for the government's Central Database Hub (Padu).
This comes amid concerns raised over the security of personal data and loopholes discovered in the newly launched system.
Cybersecurity Malaysia, he said, was involved in the project even before its launch and it will meet with the National Cyber Security Agency, the Statistics Department and others.
He advised users who observed suspicious behaviour in the Padu system to complain to the Economy Ministry’s helpdesk or lodge a police report.
Besides that, he said the government will be emphasising the economy this year.
It will be stimulating economic growth by encouraging domestic and international investors to invest within Malaysia, he added.
