Face Masks New Retail Ceiling Price Set At Rm1 Per Piece

COVID-19 | The government has lowered the retail price of three-ply surgical face masks to RM1 per piece following its move this month to mandate the wearing of masks in certain public places. The maximum wholesale price has also been lowered to RM0.95 per unit
In a government gazette dated Aug 11, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the new ceiling prices will come into effect this Saturday (Aug 15). The order was made under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011
The present retail ceiling price for face masks is RM1.50 per unit while the maximum wholesale price is RM1.45 per mask
Linggi told the Dewan Rakyat this afternoon that the ministry could further lower the ceiling price if needed, to reduce the rakyat's burden in complying with the mandatory mask rule
"The retail price of three-ply face masks has been reduced again to RM1. That means RM0.95 for the wholesale price. We hope this move will help reduce the people's burden, (especially) parents who need to prepare face masks for their children
"The ministry is prepared to reduce the ceiling price again from time to time. This will be an ongoing process. The RM1 per unit price is not the end as we will see and study this with stakeholders," he said during Question Time. Face masks have been compulsory in places of worship, markets, cinemas, hospitals, retail shops, salons as well as on public transport since Aug 1
