Explosions Fire Reported At Pd Power Plant Tnb Says Situation Under Control

PORT DICKSON: Several explosions have been reported at Tenaga Nasional's Tuanku Ja'afar power plant here.
A resident said he first heard an explosion at around 9pm and this was followed by several more a short while later. The resident, who chose to remain anonymous, said he could hear the explosions although he lived more than 1km away.
Another resident who also chose to remain anonymous said despite the explosions, electricity supply in the resort town was not disrupted.
"There were some explosions earlier but we still have power," he said.
Another resident living 15km away in Chuah said she too could feel vibrations from the explosions.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said its PD station received a call from a member of the public about an explosion about 9.10pm.
He said a team arrived at the power station about two minutes later to check the cause.
A Hazmat team from Seremban was also sent to the power station.
So far, there have been no reports of injuries.
In an immediate response, Tenaga Nasional confirmed that a fire broke out at the station.
"The situation is, however, under control.
"Our technical team has been sent there to assess the situation as well as to take measures to ensure the safety of all parties," it said.
Tenaga Nasional also confirmed that power supply to the district was not disrupted due to the fire.
"We are probing the cause and would continue to provide updates as and when necessary," it said. - Star
