Explain Status Of Alienated Flood Ponds Fahmi Insists To Shahidan
Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil has insisted that Federal Territories Minister Shahidan Kassim explain the status of six flood retention ponds in Kuala Lumpur that were given away for development projects.
He said Shahidan’s promise not to alienate any more flood retention ponds for development only applied to the remaining nine ponds that have not yet been given away.
“I welcome the promise from Shahidan (above) that no more flood reservoirs will be alienated for development. But (his statement only) applies to the remaining nine ponds that have not been given away.
“What about the six mentioned in the Auditor-General’s Report 2019 Series 2?
“I would like an explanation from the minister on the status of the six flood retention ponds that have been sold or given away since 2015,” Fahmi said in a statement today.
He questioned whether the planning permissions have been granted or whether they were cancelled for those six flood retention ponds.
Fahmi was referring to a 2019 Auditor-General's report which listed out the date when the six ponds were approved for development, and which companies they went to.
The six retention ponds in question were the Batu pond, Nanyang pond, Delima pond, Taman Wahyu pond, Batu 4 1/2 pond, and Taman Desa pond.
Previously, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh had also urged the MACC to investigate the alienation of the six flood retention ponds.
Earlier today, Shahidan had reportedly guaranteed that existing flood retention ponds in Kuala Lumpur will be preserved and will not be alienated for development. - Mkini
