Ex Sabah Umno Reps Unfazed By Threat Of Lawsuit

Two former Sabah Umno lawmakers have dismissed a threat of legal action from Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa for quitting the party last December

When contacted, Beaufort MP Azizah Mohd Dun said she would refrain from commenting on whether the suit constitutes an attempt at intimidation until it is actually filed
"It's up to him (Annuar) to sue, I want to see what are his grounds, the locus standi... We will see how it goes
"I don't know whether he wants to intimidate us or put pressure on us. We don't know what is going on in his mind," she told Malaysiakini
Azizah was one of over a dozen Sabah MPs and assemblypersons who quit Umno and pledged their support for Pakatan Harapan and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad
The exodus from Umno also saw the departure of its former Sabah chief Hajiji Mohd Noor, who has since campaigned for the setting up of a Bersatu chapter in the state
On Friday, Annuar said the Umno supreme council had decided to sue the ex-lawmakers, who had contested on a BN ticket in last year's general elections
'We are in a team'Asked whether she would consider returning to Umno in light of the threat of legal action, Azizah said the group of lawmakers had yet to consider their options
"It doesn't work that way (returning to Umno individually). The decision is not one to be made as individuals... we are in a team
"We have a team, and we follow a collective decision. We don't know yet, as that (the lawsuit) is only Annuar's decision," she said
Karanaan assemblyperson Masidi Manjun, meanwhile, was similarly dismissive, noting that Umno has a right to file a suit against those who quit
At the same time, however, the former Sabah state minister said he is enjoying his newfound freedom as an independent
"I am happy, I haven't thought about joining any other party. Yes, now I'm free and I have many friends."Masidi also said he saw no reason for him to return to Umno despite the impending suit. - Mkini
