Ex Pkr Top Leader Exits Party Again Claims Indian Members Sidelined

Former PKR deputy secretary-general P Jenapala has exited the party once again.
He claimed Indians are no longer appreciated in the party and that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim is trying to outdo Perikatan Nasional in being Malay-Muslim.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Jenapala said despite Indian votes helping PKR win seats in the recent state elections, the party made no effort to reward the community.
“This (election results) was the outcome of hard work by PKR’s Indian leaders after MIC said it was skipping the elections and DAP only focused on Chinese votes.
“But not one Indian from PKR has been appointed as a state exco member.
“I believe Anwar purposely did not give positions to Indian leaders from PKR so that he can show he is more Malay and Muslim than PN,” Jenapala said.
Hence, the PKR veteran said it was time for Indians to take a stand and send the prime minister a message that he is going down the wrong path.
Previously Jenapala was sacked from PKR in 2010 after suing the party over that year’s internal polls, which he claimed to have been barred from contesting.
However, he told Malaysiakini that PKR had brought him back into the party.
Currently, all of PKR’s three state executive council members in Selangor, as well as two in Penang, are Malays.
Negeri Sembilan has yet to appoint exco members. PKR has one Indian assemblyperson in the state.
‘Lost confidence in Anwar’
Meanwhile, also quitting PKR today was former Kapar deputy division chief Maneyvannan Velue, who told Malaysiakini he sent his resignation letter to the party.
“My PKR membership number is 00073. My 21 year struggle with the party ends today.
“I believe Indians are no longer valued in PKR. I have also lost confidence in Anwar and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari who have failed to defend the right for PKR to have an Indian representative in the state government,” he said.
Previously, the Selangor Indian Executives Association (Peis) also expressed hope that PKR would appoint one Indian as a state exco member. - Mkini
