Ex Minister Parts With Beloved Rolex To Raise Money For Palestinians

Former Islamic affairs minister Zulkifli Mohamad is auctioning a Rolex wristwatch, gifted to him by Saudi monarch King Salman Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, to raise funds for Palestinians.
In a Facebook post, he said the starting price is at RM40,000. At the time of writing, the highest bid was RM110,000.
Describing it as a “treasured” gift, Zulkifli recalled how the monarch’s message to “remain humble, prioritise the ummah and uplift the faith” has left a deep impression.
“In upholding his words and to celebrate the Saudi government channelling US$1 billion annually to Palestine, I wish to open the bidding for my beloved Rolex with the base price of RM40,000.
“The entire proceeds will be donated to the Palestinian people who are suffering,” he said, adding that bidding would end at midnight tomorrow.
Zulkifli Mohamad’s RolexThe watch was gifted to him in 2017 when he delivered a speech before King Salman upon the request of Putrajaya.
However, the former Federal Territories mufti said he only opened the box in 2021.
“The box was kept at my office in Putrajaya. When I was appointed a minister, the box was moved to my second office at Kompleks Pusat Islam Kuala Lumpur.
"When I resigned as minister in 2021, the box was transferred to my private office and it was there that I opened it,” he added.
Yesterday, Saudi had warned Israel against mounting further ground operations in the Gaza Strip and denounced the “unjustified violation” of international law.
The caution came on the heels of Israel stating that it would widen its ground invasion, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describing the escalation as a “second war of independence”.
Whereas Germany’s DW News reported that thousands have broken into the UN aid warehouses in Gaza, taking flour and other supplies amid growing hunger and desperation.
It quoted the UN as stating that it was a sign that the civil order was breaking down after three weeks of war. - Mkini
