Ex Mca Veep Offers Tips To Pas On Courting Non Malays
With PAS struggling to court non-Malay support, the Islamist party received “tips” from an unlikely source: a former MCA leader.
Calling it a “Dummy’s Guide”, former MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker said PAS should shed its dogmatic and narrow approach, and embrace inclusivity and fairness.
He added that while Islam is just to everyone and filled with grace, when politicised, it creates a negative perception of the faith.
“If PAS can start focusing on matters of integrity and solutions to people’s day-to-day problems, the support from the Chinese and Indians will gradually flow to you and Perikatan Nasional.
ADS“Besides, they are already fed up with the Madani administration, which has steered far away from its reformasi promises,” he said on Facebook yesterday.

Ti mentioned that every time PAS fails to embrace tolerance and is seen as quick to judge others, non-Malays tend to stay away not only from the Islamist party but also those seen as aligned with it.
Combat graft, defend justice
He then urged PAS to emulate the BN of yesteryear, which focused on economic growth, education empowerment, addressing cost-of-living issues, and employment, before Umno went off track and became power-hungry.
“Turn PAS into a party that is synonymous with piety and focused on practical solutions to address issues plaguing the nation, instead of indulging in rhetoric and moral policing,” Ti added.
The former MCA leader also pointed out that PAS has a huge advantage, as the party and its leaders are relatively seen as incorrupt.

“This can be used to promote yourself to the non-Malays who are fed up with politicking and empty rhetoric filled with lies.
“If PAS is consistent in fighting corruption and defending justice, the non-Malays will easily embrace you,” he added.
Ti also urged PAS to respect vernacular education and freedom of religion, which is protected under the Federal Constitution.
“State clearly that you support the existence of Chinese and Tamil schools, and you will respect freedom of religion as enshrined under the Constitution, when some in Umno are trying to close down the schools.”
