Ex District Council Chief Charged With Receiving Rm100 000 In Bribes

(Reuters pic)SHAH ALAM: Former Kuala Langat district council chief Azhar Mohamed Ali has claimed trial to four charges of accepting bribes totalling RM100,000 at the sessions court here.
Azhar, 48, was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code with receiving the alleged bribes between July 2017 and April 2019 from one Azizul Ab Majid when they had an official working relationship.
If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both.
In the first charge, Azhar is accused of receiving RM60,000 from Azizul at the Kuala Langat district council office in Banting, Selangor, on July 14, 2017.

The second charge reads that he received RM10,000 from Azizul at Taman Casa Mekar in Sungai Merab, Sepang, Selangor, on Sept 6, 2017.
The third charge alleges that he received RM20,000 from the same man at Amverton Cove Golf & Island Resort on Jalan Pulau Carey in Kuala Langat on Dec 18, 2017.
In the fourth charge, he is said to have received another RM10,000 from Azizul at Taman Casa Mekar on April 30, 2019.
Azhar pleaded not guilty to all the charges before judge Rozilah Salleh.
Rozilah allowed Azhar bail of RM50,000 in one surety and set the next case mention for Oct 26.
Azhar was represented by Ariff Azami Hussein, while deputy public prosecutor Nor Yusriza Zulkifli prosecuted.
The Kuala Langat district council changed its status to a municipal council in September 2020. - FMT
