Samirah Muzaffar, wife of Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan, and two boys were acquitted by the Shah Alam High Court of his murder last year.PUTRAJAYA: The prosecution in Nazrin Hassan’s murder case told the Court of Appeal that a police forensic unit found blood spatter in the room where the late Cradle Fund CEO was found dead.
Deputy public prosecutor Amril Johari said police tested samples of blood collected at the scene and found that it matched Nazrin’s DNA.
“The forensic officer (Nizam Hussain) insisted that the pattern of blood spatter was consistent with the effects of blunt force, and not from an explosion or gunshot,” he said.
Amril added the officer also found that the blood spatter existed before a fire broke out that day.
“It existed behind the soot from the fire,” he said.
Nazrin’s wife, Samirah Muzaffar, 48, two boys, now aged 20 and 17, and Indonesian maid Eka Wahyu Lestari, who is at large, had been charged with murdering Nazrin at their home in Mutiara Damansara on June 14, 2018.
The boys cannot be identified as they were minors at the time.
The Shah Alam High Court freed Samirah and the boys last year, after it held that the prosecution failed to prove the murder charge against them, giving rise to the present appeal.
Meanwhile, fellow deputy public prosecutor Yusaini Amer Abdul Karim said dogs from the police’s K9 unit did not detect any traces of petrol at the scene initially.
However, he said this should not be taken as a “conclusive” finding that there was no petrol at the scene.
Yusaini added that the fire and rescue department’s forensic officer (Aznor Sheda Samsudin) subsequently found traces of petrol on Nazrin’s head, on his bed and on the wall.
The hearing continues on Oct 23 before a three-member panel chaired by Justice Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera.
Other judges who heard the appeal were Justices Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim and Azhahari Kamal Ramli. - FMT
