Ex Cj Denies Involvement In Pulangkan Najib Dialogue
Former chief justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad said it was ‘irresponsible and deceptive’ to link him to the programme. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: A former chief justice has denied his involvement in tonight’s “Pulangkan Najib” dialogue in Melaka.
A poster of the programme published on former prime minister Najib Razak’s Facebook account includes Abdul Hamid Mohamad as one of the speakers at the event in Klebang Permai.
In a Bernama report, Hamid slammed the “irresponsible and deceptive” actions of certain parties who used his name and photo in the poster.
“I refer to the poster and I strongly deny it. I don’t know anything about the dialogue and never agreed to appear as a speaker or in any capacity whatsoever,” he said.
“I demand those responsible to retract the poster and apologise to me.”
According to the poster, the other speakers include Najib’s lawyer, Shafee Abdullah, his daughter, Nooryana Najwa, former Dewan Negara deputy president Ali Mohamad and former Umno Youth leader Farhan Khairuddin.
Najib was convicted in July 2020 on charges of abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC International funds amounting to RM42 million.
He was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million.
The former Umno president began serving his prison term on Aug 23, 2022, after the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal, followed by the Federal Court upholding the original conviction and sentence.
In April, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party had asked the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consider granting Najib a royal pardon as per Article 42(1) of the Federal Constitution. - FMT
