Even Kelantan S Tourism Video Didn T Feature Mosques Says Anwar
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim hurled brickbats at the opposition, claiming that even Kelantan’s tourism promotional video did not feature a mosque.
This comes after several Perikatan Nasional leaders lashed out at the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry’s Visit Malaysia Year 2026 promotional video for not featuring mosques.
“There is no need to fight, defend irregularities and corruption and play up racial sentiments. All these are not helpful to the country.
“Focus on bigger issues, not create problems over a tourism promotional video that does not feature a mosque. Even Kelantan’s tourism video does not feature a mosque.
“Even if it’s an issue, give suggestions for improvements and we’ll do it. However, they (opposition) like to play up racial sentiments and sow discord,” Sinar Harian reported him as saying today.
Anwar said this today at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Penang Mutiara Line LRT Project at the Bandar Sri Pinang LRT station site.
Opposition backlash
On Jan 8, several PN leaders criticised Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing after it was found that a 41-second promotional video uploaded to the Tourism Malaysia Facebook page did not feature mosques while showing temples and churches.
Tiong King Sing“The video, which is supposed to promote the uniqueness of Malaysia’s diverse cultures and heritage, clearly marginalises the majority of the country’s population by only showcasing places of worship such as churches and temples.
“This is yet another example of the ministry’s negligence and disregard for Muslim sensitivities, which has occurred several times under the same minister’s leadership,” alleged Bersatu Youth executive council member exco member Ad Adib Shaharuddin.
PAS Youth information chief Nadzir Helmi also asked if this was a mistake or a deliberate action driven by a specific agenda.
A day later, Tiong said the video would be remade with more detailed content to showcase each state better. It is expected to be aired within a week.
He stated that the ministry and relevant agencies have been instructed to produce promotional videos and segment the promotions by zones, as he was dissatisfied with the final video presented to him.
On that note, Anwar urged the rakyat not to waste time on petty issues which would only stunt Malaysia’s move towards becoming a developed nation and having good ties with other nations.
“This is not the time to get engrossed in parochialism, which will not help in developing Malaysia,” the Tambun MP remarked. - Mkini
