Warisan also calls for teachers and students in the state, especially in rural and interior areas, to be prioritised for vaccination. (Bernama pic)KOTA KINABALU: Warisan MPs have added their voice to calls for the government to open up interstate and inter-district travel to people who have taken both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The MPs said such persons should be allowed to make the trips, adding the approach should henceforth be used as a standard for movement of people in the country.
The leaders also wanted the immunisation programme among teachers and students in Sabah to be expedited, with a special focus on schools in rural and interior areas.
These were among the list of proposals put forth by the party leaders during an online meeting with the minister coordinating the national recovery plan, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, yesterday.
Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking, who is the Penampang MP, Labuan MP Rozman Isli and Kalabakan MP Ma’mun Sulaiman represented the party at the meeting.
The MPs also suggested that the government diversify its sources of income by applying carbon sequestration, particularly in Sabah which is the main producer of palm oil and cocoa in Malaysia.
They also wanted the government to make it easier for those severely affected financially by the pandemic to receive cash or credit assistance such as small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) as well as farmers and fishermen.
The MPs said operators involved in the supply chain in the tourism and hospitality sectors, particularly in islands and other tourist attractions in Sabah, should also be considered for such help. - FMT
