Eight Evacuated After Landslide Hits Kg Kemensah
KUALA LUMPUR: A landslide in Kampung Kemensah has led to eight people being evacuated by authorities.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak, in a statement, said that the incident occurred at around 6.30pm Wednesday (March 30).
“Four houses were affected. The first had six people aged five to 41 years old, and a part of the house was damaged due to the landslide.
“The second house was occupied by two people, aged 67 and 68 years old. The last two houses were empty,” he said on Thursday (March 31).
While a temporary shelter was prepared, all victims have opted to stay with relatives.
“No lost of life occurred as all escaped before the landslide affected their houses. Investigations showed that the houses were built illegally near a river and the hillside. The hilly area was cleared for farming,” he said
Meanwhile, ACP Farouk said a report of a landslide in Taman Melawati was found to be false.
“The police were notified at 6.29pm yesterday of a landslide involving one house that was occupied by a family of four.
“No damage was reported except that some debris from road repairs hit the back of the house.
“Checks showed that the incident was caused by repair work debris leading to the Klang Gate dam due to the heavy rain,” he said.
However, as a precaution, the police have instructed those inside to vacate their house, with the residents agreeing to stay at a nearby relative's house.
Surveillance by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council will be conducted. - Star
