Ec Lodges Police Report Against Manogaran Over Party Logo Incident
PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has lodged a police report against Pakatan Harapan’s M. Manogaran for entering a voting centre while wearing a shirt bearing the coalition’s logo during the recent Cameron Highlands by-election.The EC said that this contravened the Election Offences Act 1954 and a report had been lodged at the Sungai Koyan police station over the matter by its officer in charge of the voting centre in SK Senderut
The EC added that it had also lodged a report over the setting up of booths (barung-barung) by political parties on polling day
“Three reports involving nine voting centres in Tanah Rata and one in Jelai were lodged by the election campaign enforcement team. The matter is now in the hands of the police,” said the EC in a statement Monday (Jan 28).
“The EC will not compromise if any party disregards the law and election rules.
“All parties are reminded to adhere to all laws and regulations to ensure a fair and transparent election process,” it said.Last Saturday (Jan 26), Manogaran was escorted out of the SK Senderut polling station by election officers for wearing a shirt with the Pakatan logo
EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun said then that the display of party emblems within the grounds of polling centres was not allowed under election laws
“We have taken action by asking him to leave the voting centre
“Under the rules, nobody is allowed to exhibit party logos or distribute campaign materials within the voting area as well as 50m away from the centre,” he added
The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) then urged the EC to lodge a police report.-Star
