Easier To Develop Sabah After Winning Polls Says Muhyiddin
Muhyiddin Yassin says it will now be much easier to plan and discuss issues regarding development in Sabah.KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin says developing Sabah will be easier now that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, consisting of Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah, has won the Sabah elections.
At a town hall session for the Shared Prosperity Vision (SPV) 2030, he said the state’s development did not only depend on the federal government but also on the state government.
“Not to say that (having an) opposition (government) would be difficult, but now it will be a lot easier. Now, it will be easier to plan, we can sit down together and discuss,” he said.
He was responding to a question about the infrastructure and socio-economic development gap in Sabah.
Muhyiddin said many things needed to be done, adding that the Sabah and Sarawak Affairs Department at the Prime Minister’s Office had prepared a paper to be presented to the Cabinet.
He said the paper did not only cover the Malaysia Agreement 1963 but other issues as well. “There are a lot (of issues) I’d say that we have identified.”
One of the SPV’s goals, he said, was to narrow the development gap between different territories.
“We don’t want a situation where the peninsula is rapidly developing but Sabah and Sarawak get left behind. The policies are clear, but now what programmes are we going to implement?”
He added that there was also a need to ensure there would be no leakages in funds from the government. - FMT
