Dr Sathia Enters Race For Pkr Veep Post
Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan, the PKR deputy secretary-general, is the eighth person to announce his candidacy for one of the party’s four vice-president posts.
PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy secretary-general Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan has announced that he will run for one of the four vice-president positions in the party’s elections this May.
Sathia said he decided to contest after consulting party leaders and fellow members.
He said he also discussed the matter with members of the Hulu Selangor PKR division as well as grassroots supporters during his visits to various states across the country.
To avoid any conflict of interest and ensure transparency and fairness in the election process, Sathia said he had stepped down as director of the party’s 2025 national congress with immediate effect.
“I trust that the party’s top leadership will appoint a suitable person to take on this responsibility and ensure the smooth running of the congress,” he said in a statement.
The four vice-presidents elected in 2022 were Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari, Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun, natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, as well as science, technology, and innovation minister Chang Lih Kang.
All four have announced their intention to defend their positions.
Other candidates contesting the vice-president posts include former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil, and Sungai Buloh PKR chief R Ramanan.
Elections for the women’s and youth wing divisional committees will be held from April 11 to 20, while voting for the central leadership council and the heads of the women’s and youth wings will take place on May 24. - FMT
