We Were The First To Back Anwar Warisan Veep Reminds Pkr Man
Warisan vice-president Junz Wong (left) said his party knows what it is doing, after PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung said it should reconsider its decision to go solo in the coming Sabah election.
PETALING JAYA: A Warisan leader has urged PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung not to question its loyalty to the unity government, claiming the party was the first outside of Pakatan Harapan to back Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister in 2022.
Warisan vice-president Junz Wong said the party’s support for the unity government after the hung Parliament following the 15th general election was a massive boost for Anwar, before he had obtained the backing of other parties and coalitions.
Wong said it was only later that other parties, which he claimed were aligned to Perikatan Nasional, decided to back Anwar.
“Remember what we have done for you. Don’t burn the bridges after securing the necessary numbers,” he told FMT.
Lee had urged Warisan to reconsider its decision to go solo in the coming Sabah election, which he said had disappointed the unity government.
The PKR man also said Warisan must decide whether it intends to remain in the unity government or join the opposition bloc at the federal level before the state election.
Wong, a three-term assemblyman, said Warisan must contest against the Hajiji Noor-led Gabungan Rakyat Sabah as that was why Sabahans voted for the party during the 2020 state polls.
He said it was Pakatan Harapan which betrayed the people’s trust by joining the GRS administration despite contesting with Warisan in 2020.
“We cannot betray the people’s mandate for us, so we must remain in the opposition in Sabah. Based on what the people voted for in 2020, PH should also have remained in the opposition.
“What he’s essentially asking of Warisan is for us to consider joining their alliance with GRS instead of contesting alone. He’s asking us to ignore the people’s voice and betray the trust they bestowed upon us in 2020.”
The Tanjung Aru assemblyman also questioned why Lee did not pose the same question -whether Warisan wishes to remain a part of the unity government – to Gabungan Parti Sarawak, since GPS and PH are rivals at the state level.
“Don’t come here with a big brother mentality and tell us what to do. We know exactly what we’re doing, it’s in the best interest of Sabah,” he said.
Wong said Lee should show more concern over the issues Sabah faces, such as corruption and the absence of basic infrastructure like running water and electricity supply, instead of Warisan’s decision to go solo at the polls.
“You should be voicing about all these issues if you’re really concerned about Sabah, not telling us whether Warisan should be going solo or not. All you care about is your party’s political survival,” he said. - FMT
