Door Always Open Hamzah On Pn Returning To Power With New Allies
Hamzah Zainudin is not discounting the prospect of Perikatan Nasional (PN) returning to power after forging new alliances.
The coalition is also not ruling out working with BN, whose chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi chose to collaborate with Pakatan Harapan instead of PN after the last general election resulted in a political deadlock.
“The door is always open,” he responded to a question on PN making a comeback at the federal level with new allies.
According to the New Straits Times, the PN secretary-general was speaking at the Concorde Club talk series. The Concorde Club is a forum on current issues by selected speakers initiated by veteran journalists.
Sharing his predictions on the coming state elections, Hamzah (above) said PN would capture Selangor, which has been under Harapan’s control since 2008.
For the Harapan-controlled Negeri Sembilan, he viewed it as a 50-50 contest.
However, Hamzah acknowledged DAP’s strength in Penang and believed that the state would remain in its control.
On the same note, he expected PN to retain its control of Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
As for working with BN, Hamzah refrained from describing this as a new iteration of “Muafakat Nasional”.
The former home minister said for this alliance to materialise, the leaders of the respective coalition must agree to it.
“This alliance is a policy that should be accepted by leaders of all parties - Bersatu, PAS, and Umno.
“If they believe in having one goal, there is nothing wrong with having this alliance.
“If one says ‘no’, it will not happen, but if we believe in each other, we can achieve our goals,” he added.
He also underscored that the basis of this alliance would be to pursue the interests of all races.
Hamzah also shared his thoughts on his former party Umno, which suffered its biggest setback in the 15th general election.
“Umno needs to have a massive rejuvenation exercise or risk being wholly rejected. Umno needs new alliances for the party to reinvent itself,” he said.
Hamzah’s remarks come in the wake of allegations that there is a new plot in the making, dubbed “London Move”, to topple the current government. - Mkini
