Donation Storm Maszlee S Illogical Quit Call Leaves Amanah Puzzled

Former education minister Maszlee Malik’s call for Aiman Athirah Sabu’s head to roll over the Tiger Beer saga has left Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad puzzled.
Khalid (above) could not understand what motivated the PKR central leadership council member to demand the deputy housing and local government minister to step down as the MP for Sepang and Amanah women’s wing chief.
“I don’t understand why he made such a statement. It is inappropriate. Aiman had explained the matter (her attendance at the fundraiser for Chinese schools).
“He should have met Aiman first to discuss and get an explanation before making a statement,” Khalid told reporters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
Describing it as an “illogical” statement, he also believes that it was Maszlee’s personal opinion.
Khalid said the donation from a company that produces alcoholic beverages would be controversial if it involved a government or religious school.
“But this is a Chinese school. They only receive partial assistance (from the government). That (fundraisers) involving private firms have been carried out for years,” he added.
Time to move on
Yesterday, Aiman refused to dwell on Maszlee’s call, urging all quarters to move on.
“I have already offered my apologies if there was any wrongdoing.
“For the rest, we must move on to focus on our work for the sake of the people. The people need our support and service,” she said.
Last week, Maszlee claimed that Aiman’s involvement in the event was an embarrassment and had tarnished Amanah’s image.

“If she (Aiman) has dignity and integrity, she will voluntarily resign as a parliamentarian and as the Amanah women’s chief.
“It will be a lesson to other Amanah MPs to be more thorough, careful and to uphold the true principles of rahmah (mercy),” he added.
Aiman also came under fire from PAS and Perikatan Nasional leaders over her presence at the event. - Mkini
