Don T Blame Amanah Even If Allegations Against Morib Rep True Siti Mariah

Amanah should not be blamed if allegations of domestic violence made against the party’s Morib assemblyperson, Hasnul Baharuddin, were found to be true, according to its vice-president Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.
Rather, the Seri Serdang assemblyperson (above) said Hasnul would have to bear any personal consequences as a result of his alleged actions.
“If the allegations were found to be true as confirmed through police investigations, any impact should be upon the individual and not the party.
“The party cannot be blamed,” Siti Mariah told Malaysiakini when contacted today.
“After the police have investigated and there is a syariah court decision, only then party members and leadership can decide on the individual leader’s political future.
“As leaders, there will be a higher public expectation upon them,” said Siti Mariah who admitted to having no personal knowledge of Hasnul’s affairs as personal family matters were not often discussed within the party.
She said this when asked for comments on an ongoing police probe against Hasnul for alleged domestic violence and voluntarily causing hurt, based on a report lodged by his ex-wife, Juliani Jalilah Abdullah.
Talaq tiga
Juliani, 38, in her report, alleged that Hasnul had at around 11pm on Aug 21 assaulted her at their home in Banting, causing facial injuries, after she denied his request for permission to remarry his former second wife.
Juliani previously revealed she had a photograph of her face taken immediately after the incident, submitted as part of proceedings at the Kuala Langat lower Syariah Court which had on Thursday validated Hasnul’s divorce pronouncement.

She said Hasnul had admitted before the court that he had on Oct 14 via a WhatsApp message stated his intention to divorce her with “talaq tiga” or the highest degree of divorce under syariah law.
Hasnul, who had divorced both his first and second wife after marrying Juliani as his third wife eight years ago, also confirmed his admission in court.
He, however, told Malaysiakini yesterday it was a personal matter and declined further comments on the manner in which he had divorced Juliani.
'Wife beating, WhatsApp divorce unacceptable'
Siti Mariah, who is the party's former women's wing chief, said it is her general stand that it is unacceptable for a man to hit his wife or to divorce her via text message.
“A marriage is conducted face-to-face and the same must be done in order to divorce, that would be the courageous and proper way to do it.
“To all men, if you no longer favour your wife, let her go in the proper manner. Reflect on the good times. A marriage should not end with anger and vengefulness,” she said.
A Muslim man is permitted under Islamic law to divorce his wife on either one, two or three talaq pronouncements - the first and second with the chance to reconcile - or all three at once, indicating no reconciliation is possible.
Siti Mariah, who is also Selangor exco in charge of health, unity, women empowerment and families, said she could not accept any excuse for a man to justify using all three talaq at once against his wife.
“I also can’t accept divorce via WhatsApp and any form of wife-beating, for whatever reason,” she added. - Mkini
