Opening the general assemblies of the youth and women’s wings at Bersatu’s annual general assembly here today, Hamzah said modern politics demanded “renewal, openness, courage, and relevance to the people”.
“We must not be lulled by nostalgia, because 21st century politics also requires us to constantly create success for the nation,” he said.
“Bersatu must be dynamic. Bersatu must have the moral strength that serves as the compass of our leadership, the strength that will inspire confidence in others.
“Bersatu must also have sustainability anchored in excellence as a guide to attaining divine approval, while continually embracing a tawhidic epistemology.”
Hamzah outlined three principles for Bersatu going forward: uphold inclusivity, moderation, democracy, integrity and compassion; be bold and creative in driving reform; and build resilience by never bowing to pressure.
“With these foundations, we believe the people will trust Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional to return to lead the nation,” he said.
He reiterated that the next general election (GE16) would be a decisive battle not just for Bersatu or PN, but for the people.
As such, he said, the youth and women’s wings must “mobilise youth, women and their machinery, starting with Sabah and Johor”.
Hamzah also called on retired judges, generals, civil servants, technocrats and professionals to join Bersatu’s struggle, saying Malaysia needed a “national consensus” to become an Asian Tiger.
“We do not promise the moon and the stars, but we promise justice and true nation-building across races and religions,” he said. - FMT
