Do Not Continue Cooperation With Harapan Mca Warns Bn

MCA issued a stern warning against BN extending its cooperation with Pakatan Harapan into the next general election.
During the party's annual general meeting today, MCA president Wee Ka Siong made a subtle but clear threat that they are ready to leave BN should "some allies" wish to continue working with Harapan.
"Since coming into power, DAP and Harapan have made U-turns on countless issues, abandoning promise after promise. Worse still, they have not only betrayed the people, but they have also betrayed their own principles.
"If, by the next general election, some BN allies still wish to continue cooperating with them, that would only mean the BN spirit has completely vanished.
"In that case, we can only say, 'Good luck! MCA has its own path'," Wee said, according to a copy of his presidential address uploaded on the MCA website.
While he did not name anyone in particular, it was understood that the MCA president was referring to Umno, whose president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is BN chairperson and the key figure who led the coalition into supporting Anwar Ibrahim's unity government.
Wee said BN cannot thrive in the unity government and continuing the relationship with Harapan can be "severely detrimental" to its future.
He pointed out that Harapan was quick to form an alliance with Umno after having accused it of corruption and racism, and suggested that the former cannot be a trusted partner.
"One wonders: if it is Umno today, which party will they ally with tomorrow?" Wee added.
According to the Ayer Hitam MP, BN must show the people that it has the courage and determination to reform, proving itself as a capable political coalition.
‘No plans to join PN’
Wee urged all BN component parties to start strengthening their internal infrastructures, avoid factionalism and "not reject capable leaders with moderate and progressive views".
"Bring back those leaders who are not currently in the core leadership but have good public standing. Only then can BN gain strength and improve its overall image.
"BN also needs more moderate, broad-minded leaders. If we refuse to reform, we will be abandoned by the tides of time," he said.
However, despite his scathing criticism of Harapan and DAP, Wee emphasised that MCA has rejected suggestions to join Perikatan Nasional and become part of the opposition.
He highlighted the acrimony between PAS and the Chinese community, and noted that Chinese voters "strongly rejected" the Islamist party.
Wee also described PAS as alienating and "often hurting" non-Muslim communities.
He noted that until the party made efforts to significantly reform and embrace diversity, they would continue to fail in attracting non-Muslim support for their coalition. - Mkini
