Do Not Burn Bridges With Muda Pkr Mp Tells Govt
Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim said Muda is not an opposition party that opposes for the sake of opposition.PETALING JAYA: A PKR MP has urged the government not to sever ties with Muda, which it needs to secure supermajority support for amending the Federal Constitution, including the separation of powers between the attorney-general and the public prosecutor.
Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim said the government should be able to distinguish between constructive and destructive opposition.
This comes after Muda president and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman expressed strong support for Putrajaya’s efforts to make the necessary changes.
“Muda is not an opposition party that opposes for the sake of opposition. Therefore, Pakatan Harapan in particular should not burn bridges with Muda,” Hassan said in a statement today
He noted that despite being in the opposition, Syed Saddiq did not follow the Perikatan Nasional MPs out of the House during the prime minister’s winding-up speech on the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review, despite his allocation being withdrawn.
“The prime minister, PH and the government certainly do not need to be taught how to handle contradictions or disagreements.
“The contradiction between PH and Muda is like finely chopped water, it will not break; or like the tangled feathers of a chicken, they will eventually come together.
“This contradiction is non-antagonistic,” he said.
On Sept 10, Syed Saddiq officially left the government bloc and positioned himself as a “third force” in protest against the decision to grant Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi a discharge in his corruption case. - FMT
