Dirty Tomyan Restaurant Fined Rm1 3k Ordered To Close
MELAKA (Bernama): A Thai (tomyam) restaurant in Bukit Katil here was ordered to close for 14 days and fined RM1,300 by the state Health Department on Thursday (Oct 24), after being found to be operating in a dirty and disgusting manner
State Health and Anti-Drugs Committee chairman Low Chee Leong said in a four-hour operation starting from 8pm last night (Oct 23), four compound notices were issued against food premise operators for various offences, including employing food handlers who have not received anti-typhoid vaccines
"The operation was carried out after receiving public information on the issue which has been going viral on social media since yesterday and inspection found the level of cleanliness at the premises to be below 70%, ” he said when contacted by Bernama on Thursday
Several pictures of the tomyam restaurant, especially the dirty floor area and the disgusting kitchen, have received negative responses from netizens after going viral on Facebook yesterday
Elaborating, Low said the restaurant owner needs to do a thorough cleaning during the closure, and the outlet would be inspected again by the Health Department before being allowed to operate again.Meanwhile, he said the state Health Department had issued compounds worth RM156,990 for various offences under the Food Act 1983 and Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 via 181 food hygiene operations conducted from Jan 1 to Sept 29
"We have also issued 1,146 notices for offences committed and inspected 4,485 food and beverage outlets around the state during the period," he said
He said of the total, 73 premises were ordered closed for 14 days for failing to comply with the existing act or regulations. - Bernama
