Despite Backlash Sanusi Insists Sik Mp Must Be Male
Latifah Md Yatim (right) said Sanusi Md Nor should try tying a coconut around his stomach like an expectant mother to know what they go through.ALOR SETAR: Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor has defended his remark that the future MP of the rural constituency Sik in Kedah should be a man, saying the comment was based on sentiments from the ground.
However, he admitted that he might have gone overboard in elaborating the issue, saying he had merely uttered them for entertainment value.
“Sik’s terrain, distance, jungles and socioeconomic factors require a male elected representative. Women should be given the space and trust as an elected rep, but not in Sik.
“I know the opposition in Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional are using my comments as a talking point. They have run out of ideas to talk about,” he told FMT.

Sanusi also said he spoke in a thick “Sik local dialect”, which might be difficult for others to comprehend.
In a video that went viral on social media yesterday, he criticised BN and PH’s move to field women in the Sik parliamentary seat.
He said that without meaning to demean PAS muslimat (women’s wing), the area is vast and rural with many poor residents. He claimed it might be beyond the capabilities of women to serve there.
PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar slammed Sanusi for his misogynistic statement, saying she was not surprised by his statement.
The PH candidate for Sik, Latifah Md Yatim, also lambasted Sanusi for his remarks and asserted that mothers have greater self-resilience. - FMT
