Dark Days If Pn Continues To Stay In Power Says Mujahid

A former Pakatan Harapan Minister has warned that the nation would remain in "darkness" if the current Perikatan Nasional (PN) government is allowed to stay in power
Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa said a proper government would defend the foundations of democracy, law and natural unity
However, he claimed that PN is a government that has lost focus and is only interested in maintaining power
"This will undermine the nation's principles by making politics for the sake of power
"PN from the beginning of its existence has nothing to do with preserving the principles of a nation," he told Malaysiakini
Mujahid's remarks come after PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said Harapan and its allies have 107 parliamentary seats in their hands
His statement also follows DAP central committee member Liew Chin Tong who urged that Anwar and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad close ranks immediately
Mujahid went on to argue that the value of public consultation under PN has been compromised by ignoring parliamentary democracy
He was referring to the one-day parliamentary session on May 18 which was limited to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong giving his royal address
Mujahid said MPs should be allowed to question and debate during the August house sitting as billions of funds have been spent without parliamentary approval since March 2020
Despite the criticisms, Mujahid said the PM's stimulus packages to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic were "dished out without parliamentary approval"
Mujahid also claimed that the principles of law in the country is now only a side agenda
He cited the two recent alleged corruption cases of prominent personalities which have been dropped
"The cases of Riza Aziz and Musa Aman sent a strong message that the cases of former premier Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would be dropped as well," he said
On May 13, the Sessions Court granted Riza (photo), who is a movie producer and stepson of former premier Najib Abdul Razak, a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for five charges of money laundering involving U$248 million (RM1.08 billion) linked to 1MDB funds
Musa, who is a former Sabah chief minister, was acquitted of money laundering charges linked to timber concessions in the state
"Others are just waiting for 'good news'
"Ironically, those involved in the 1MDB case in other countries have been convicted," Mujahid said
Meanwhile, PN stands for racial and religious hatred that forms the backbone of its strongest supporters, Mujahid said
He warned that the country is going to the extreme right with the rhetoric of "anti-DAP, Islam and Malays under threat and faces loss power"
"We are seeing Malaysia becoming more and more neo-conservative under PN's rule
"PN's power depends on the lifeline of racial hatred, our national unity is under threat. The issue is so politicised that race relations have become worse," he added
Mujahid said PN's power also depends on the extent to which the government's apparatus is exploited to carry out threats and selective prosecution
"Dark times become more prominent as long as Harapan does not retake its mandate. The power of the PN is unstable, and its loyalty lies only in the interests of what it can achieve and not in governing the country and its people
"Welcome to the dark and the people will once again suffer from the presence of elitist politics, partisan, racial and religious hatred," he said. - Mkini
