Dap Using Warisan Banner Won T Sway Pkr From Its Own Logo
SABAH POLLS | Sabah PKR is not swayed from using its own logo for the upcoming state election even though DAP is its latest Pakatan Harapan partner to announce that it will use the Warisan banner to field its electoral candidates
"PKR will still use the PKR logo," Sabah PKR information chief Simsudin Sidek told Malaysiakini
He was asked to respond to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's announcement earlier today that the party's Sabah chapter has decided to use Warisan's logo to contest in the Sabah election
Amanah had on Sept 2 also announced that it will contest the election under the Warisan logo
Warisan heads a political coalition with Pakatan Harapan and Upko as allies
Warisan president Shafie Apdal has said he won't force the party's allies to use a common logo if they didn't want to
Despite the disagreement on a common logo, PKR appears satisfied with the outcome of seat negotiations with its allies
Simsudin, in a statement, said the number of seats PKR will be contesting is "reasonable"
PKR, which contested eight state seats in the 2018 general election, will be contesting 14 seats this state election, which is set for Sept 26
"Even though the party contested more seats in the past, but due to the spirit of camaraderie with our partners, particularly Warisan, PKR only contested six parliamentary seats and eight state seats in 2018
"Since then, Sabah PKR's membership had grown to more than 170,000, making Sabah the state with the second-largest membership after Selangor
"Due to this, the party will be fielding 14 candidates (in this election), a reasonable increase considering the total number of state seats have also increased from 60 to 73," Simsudin said
Under the negotiated allocation, PKR will surrender three seats it previously contested, namely Kadamaian, Kuala Penyu, and Karanaan
In exchange, PKR will be allocated nine seats which it previously did not contest in
They include the newly-created seats of Segama, Limbahau, Pintasan, and Sungai Manila as well as the existing seats of Klias, Sook, Kemabong, Membakut, and Petagas which were previously contested by Warisan
It should be noted that Petagas is held by Warisan's incumbent representative Uda Sulai. Warisan did not win, in the last general election, the other seats it is conceding now
PKR will also retain five seats which it contested in the last general election, namely Api-Api, Inanam, Tempasuk, Tamparuli, and Matunggong
PKR won Api-Api and Inanam in the last general election but lost the others. - Mkini
