Dap Raises Nearly Rm1m For Putra Heights Victims
DAP has announced raising nearly RM1 million for victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire from its recently concluded fundraising campaign.
ADSThe party’s mouthpiece The Rocket said that as of 6.35pm, it has successfully raised RM965,539.44 for the emergency relief fund and is no longer accepting further donations.
Details including the disbursement of the funds will be announced later, it said.
“Although the fundraising campaign has come to an end, the journey to recovery continues.
“Let us join hands and support the affected families with empathy and action and accompany them out of their predicament,” it said in a Facebook post.
Move criticised
Previously, DAP was criticised for setting up a fund to help victims of the April 1 fire, instead of dishing out government aid as part of the ruling coalition.
This led to an outburst from party secretary-general Anthony Loke.
“If you’re condemning those who are trying to help, it’s a big sin.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke“It’s better for them to use their energy to find ways to help… if you can’t help, just keep quiet,” he said last Saturday.
Loke later admitted during a Malaysiakini interview that he was livid, but defended being blunt in his remarks and said it was aimed at individuals politicising the party’s relief efforts.
“We were out there helping people, yet some were still using this to attack us.
“We know certain people were trying to stir public sentiment, so I said, ‘If you’re not helping, just diam (shut up)’,” he said.
He also revealed that it was DAP publicity secretary Yeo Bee Yin who came up with the idea of setting up the relief fund.
He also stressed that all donations are audited and transparent.
Loke reiterated that while the government and Petronas have provided aid, DAP, as a political party, can also mobilise social forces for disaster relief. - Mkini
