Dap Mps Demand Full Disclosure After Nfa Decision In Beng Hock Case
Raub MP Chow Yu Hui and Bakri MP Tan Hong Pin have expressed deep shock and dissatisfaction over the police’s decision to conclude the case of Teoh Beng Hock’s wrongful death as “No Further Action” (NFA).
In a joint statement yesterday, the DAP MPs demanded that the police disclose the full details of their investigation and explain why the MACC officers implicated in the case have not been held accountable.
“Teoh died in custody on July 16, 2009 - 16 years ago. A Royal Commission was formed, and the courts acknowledged that his death involved homicide. Even though the High Court ordered the case to be reopened within six months in November 2024, the police have again opted for ‘NFA’.
“This is a grave blow to judicial integrity and a betrayal of both the Teoh family and the public,” Chow said.

Raub MP Chow Yu HuiIn 2014, the Court of Appeal ruled that Teoh’s death was “caused by persons unknown” and warranted investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“Instead, the police had continued to pursue the case under Section 342 for wrongful confinement - a fundamental misdirection,” he argued.
He called for clarity on whether this was due to incompetence or a deliberate attempt to avoid responsibility.
He added that the Teoh family had met Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Aug 1 last year and received firm assurance that the case would be reinvestigated as a murder and that international experts could be brought in.
Yet, Chow said these commitments remain unfulfilled.
“How can the government expect Malaysians to believe in the reforms promised under ‘Madani Malaysia’ when such impunity persists?” Chow asked.
Devastating decision
Tan echoed this sentiment, stating that the NFA decision has devastated the Teoh family and severely undermined public trust in the unity government.

Bakri MP Tan Hong PinADSHe stressed the importance of honouring commitments to fairness and justice.
“Malaysians voted for change to end an era of impunity and abuse, not to see the same injustices under a different guise.
“It is especially distressing that MACC officers involved in Teoh’s interrogation have not faced consequences. Some have even been promoted.
“This lack of accountability only perpetuates a culture of abuse and weakens trust in our institutions. If Teoh’s case remains unresolved, more innocent lives may suffer under a broken system,” he said.
Chow and Tan called for the following actions:
The police must immediately release the full investigation report, explain the deviation from the court’s ruling, and disclose any officer non-compliance.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers must clarify why it accepted the NFA recommendation and confirm whether the investigation could still be reopened.
The government must honour its pledge to appoint independent or international investigators to ensure justice for Teoh and restore confidence in the rule of law.
