ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) students and affiliates achieved stellar results in the June 2021 papers, bringing pride to the nation despite challenges of the pandemic in ACCA’s first-ever completely Remote Invigilation (RI) examinations. Among 103,000 students who sat for their papers globally, many Malaysians were listed among the top 25 in worldwide placements, with four claiming global top spots.

In the ACCA Qualification category, Hannah Mumtazah Ahmad Murshidi was ranked first for Financial Management, and also achieved the top score nationwide in Strategic Business Reporting, while Ng Jia Hui scored the highest for Audit and Assurance around the world.

Foundation in Accountancy students also achieved impressive results, with Lim Hui Ning gaining top global scores for two papers, Foundations in Taxation and Foundations in Audit, while Joleyn Chan aced the Management Information paper.

Joining their ranks is Kok Xue Min who gained the #1 nationwide position among Malaysia’s ACCA affiliates.

Edward Ling, Portfolio Head of ACCA Maritime Southeast Asia said: “Malaysian students have consistently ranked well in ACCA examinations, and their accomplishments this year are all the more impressive as they have soldiered on through the pandemic and all its uncertainties.

“Throughout these trying times, ACCA has endeavoured to provide students with essential support for their virtual exams, such as access to enhanced digital learning resources which include a series of webinars and podcasts with expert tutors to highlight important exam techniques and tips for success, as well as our Student Accountant app and Practical Experience learning resources which provide important study guidance. We also encourage our students to use the ACCA Exam Practice Platform, allowing them to take past exams on a platform that mimics a real RI exam.

“Remote Invigilation was important this last session in order to protect the health and safety of all involved. However, despite the disruptions, we are pleased that over 3,000 remotely invigilated examinations were conducted, and each and every one of our students have made their families proud with their outstanding results. We wish them our heartiest congratulations.”

Top scorer Hannah Mumtazah Ahmad Murshidi, a student at Universiti Technologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, owes much of her accomplishment to ACCA’s digital resources and support from family, friends and lecturers. “To prepare myself, I used the ACCA CEB Learning Platform and applied the techniques our lecturers had taught us. I’m also very grateful for all the moral and practical support I received from everyone around me, as that definitely gave me the motivation and confidence to do my best for the papers. Now that I have experienced remote examinations, I feel confident that I can adapt to changing circumstances easily in the future.”

Lim Hui Ning, an ACCA Foundation in Accountancy student at Sunway TES Centre for Accountancy Excellence, credits her double accomplishment to diligence. She said, “I chose ACCA FIA because it offers the most efficient pathway to complete my qualifications, while giving me a wide range of skills and competencies to become a well-established auditor in the future. In fact, I think it is a great starting point for anyone who wishes to have a fulfilling career in accounting and finance.”

For Kok Xue Min, “I spent many hours practicing past years’ papers on the ACCA website to familiarise myself with the remote invigilated examination format,” she said. “These online resources as well as guidance from the lecturers made all the difference.”

Acknowledging the top scorers’ determination in the face of all the pandemic disruptions, Ling added, “Their achievements are well-deserved, and are certainly a source of inspiration to all young Malaysians striving to become successful in their respective fields of study.

“I would like to reassure students that we would continue to give them the fullest support in their journey with ACCA during these challenging times, and work closely with our learning partners to improve on the examination experience, be it via RI or at the exam centres when it is safe and appropriate to do so.”
