Covid 19 Malaysia Sets Another Record With 1 884 New Cases


 



COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,884 new Covid-19 infections, a new record high in daily cases.
The previous record was set on Nov 6 with 1,755 new cases.
The spike was largely contributed by the Teratai cluster which involves workers from Top Glove's factories in Klang.

Selangor made up a majority of the new cases with 1,203 infections. Out of this, 1,060 of them were from the Teratai cluster.
There were also 883 recoveries but the record number of new infections means the patient load for Covid-19 hospitals is up by almost 1,000 in a single day.
In Kuala Lumpur, 101 of the 196 new cases were from the Damanlela cluster, linked to a mall construction site in Damansara.
The cases today put the cumulative infections at 56,659 against 42,480 cumulative recoveries.
Leading indicators:
Active cases - 13,842 ↑ (999 more than the previous day)
Patients in intensive care - 115 ↑ (Nine more than the previous day)
Intubated patients - 48 ↑ (Two more than the previous day)
Deaths - 2 ↓ (one less than the previous day)
The two new fatalities put the death toll at 337. Details about the death are as follows:

Patient 51,858 (Death 336) - 80-year-old Malaysian male. Passed away at Hospital Duchess of Kent, Sabah. No reported pre-existing conditions.
Patient 53,951 (Death 337) - 58-year-old Malaysian woman. Died at Sabah Women & Children Hospital. Had a history of high blood pressure, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

There were no new cases reported in Labuan, Sarawak, Pahang, Malacca and Terengganu for today.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, also reported the detection of four new Covid-19 clusters.
On the flip side, three clusters were declared over. They are the Jambul cluster, Surat cluster and Hampar cluster.

A total of 168 out of 334 clusters are still active. However, only 46 clusters reported new cases today.

The four new clusters today are the Bintang cluster and Indah Mas cluster in the Klang Valley, Teja Kasih cluster in Perak and Kobena cluster in Johor.
The Bintang cluster involves workers at the construction site in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur. 
A screening of the area since Nov 23 has found 95 Covid-19 cases, comprising 94 non-citizens and one Malaysian.
The Indah Mas cluster involves the districts of Titiwangsa and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling in Selangor.

The index case is Patient 53,452 who was discovered through a screening of symptomatic individuals on Nov 21.

Contact tracing found a total of 10 Covid-19 cases in the cluster to date.

The Teja Kasih cluster involves the districts of Kampar and Kinta in Perak. 

The index case is Patient 48,506 who was discovered on Nov 16 through a screening of symptomatic patients.

To date, 41 people in the cluster have been found positive with Covid-19.

The Kobena cluster involves the district of Johor Bahru in Johor.

The index case is Patient 52,599 who was a Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (Sari) patient. He was confirmed positive with Covid-19 on Nov 20.
Follow-up contract tracing found a total of 13 Covid-19 cases in the cluster.
