Covid 19 Dzulkefly Advocates Intense Social Distancing Not Lockdown

CORONAVIRUS | Former health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad is advocating the government urgently implement intense social distancing measures to combat the spread of Covid-19
Dzulkefly, who helmed the Health Ministry during the Pakatan Harapan administration, said it was important Malaysia implement gradual mitigation measures to contain the outbreak
“Malaysia is in critical need (of the) right measures at the right time
“Urgently implement 'gradated mitigation measures' but continue containment measures to further flatten the epidemic curve
“(Practice) Intense social distancing like Singapore and Korea, (but) unlike the lockdown model of China and Italy,” he said in a series of tweets today
The epidemic, or epidemiological, curve is a statistical chart used to visualise the onset of a disease outbreak while social distancing is actions taken to minimise non-essential contact and create distance with others to stop or slow the spread of the disease
In his subsequent tweet, Dzulkefly, who is currently heading Selangor's taskforce in tackling the outbreak, explained examples of social distancing measures
These include - which include staying at home (with the exception of essential work or medical visits); cancelling or postponing gatherings involving more than 50 people; employers encouraging working from home; extension of school leave and universities should hold online lectures; and not act impulsively by panic buying essential supplies
