Covid 19 Cheras Apartment Cluster Could Be Due To Hari Raya Visits

CORONAVIRUS | The Covid-19 infection cluster detected at a Cheras apartment block could be related to visits before and during the recent Hari Raya celebrations, said Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah
Noor Hisham said so far six positive cases have been detected and 120 close contacts were screened
A total of 76 individuals were tested negative while 38 others are waiting for results
From the six positive cases, three involve residents of the apartment while the other three are outsiders
"The positive cases in this cluster are family and friends of the first detected case," said Noor Hisham
"The source of the infection is still being investigated but highly likely the Covid-19 infections are related to visiting activities before and during Hari Raya," he said at the ministry's daily Covid-19 press conference in Putrajaya today
The government had restricted Hari Raya visits to only its first day on May 24 with repeated reminders to limit the number of guests to only 20 people on that day
Nor Hisham said the first case detected involved a tahfiz student who was screened as part of the Health Ministry and Jakim's targeted screening process
Dr Noor Hisham AbdullahIn the past, a large number of positive cases involving tahfiz students or teachers were linked to the Seri Petaling tabligh cluster but Noor Hisham said the probe so far found that no students, teacher or staff from the tahfiz school has a history of attending the gathering
The Seri Petaling cluster so far recorded 3,373 cases and 33 deaths while active case detection among tahfiz schools has found 407 cases
Meanwhile, Noor Hisham reiterated that the ministry is in the process of screening the cellmates of a former inmate at the Sungai Buloh prison who was found to be positive when tested as part of transfer procedures to the Semenyih Immigration depot
He had yesterday clarified that the prisoner, who is a Canadian of Sri Lankan descent, was convicted at the end of May and was moved to the Semenyih immigration depot for deportation
