Covid 19 Bangsar S Jln Telawi Cluster Involving Supermarket Workers Among 17 New Clusters
PUTRAJAYA: The "Jalan Telawi" cluster in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, is among 17 new Covid-19 clusters detected by the Health Ministry on Thursday (Feb 11).
In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new cluster has 21 confirmed cases among workers of a supermarket located on Jalan Telawi in Bangsar Baru.
“The positive cases under this cluster have been uncovered since Feb 2, following a targeted screening exercise on workers of the supermarket.
“As of Feb 11, a total of 150 individuals linked to the cluster have been screened, with 21 of them found to be positive, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.
Out of the 17 new clusters, 13 are linked to outbreaks detected at workplaces.
An outbreak at a prison in Kampung Bendera in Batu Gajah, Ipoh, has also been discovered by the ministry.
Dr Noor Hisham said the Tembok Bendera cluster had 21 individuals found to be positive from a screening conducted on inmates.
In Sarawak, an outbreak has been detected at a longhouse in Nanga Lijan, Julau.
The index case had developed symptoms on Jan 27 and tested positive on Feb 4.
A screening of the 61-year-old man’s family members and close contacts discovered 22 more positive cases.
Dr Noor Hisham there are now 477 active clusters nationwide.
On Thursday, the number of Covid-19 recoveries in Malaysia had outnumbered the total of new cases.
There were 3,384 new infections, while the number of patients who were discharged was 3,774.
There are also 13 deaths.
The number of active cases stands at 51,783.
Selangor remained the state with the highest number of cases, recording 1,082 on Thursday.
It was followed by Johor with 777 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 435 cases.
On the 13 deaths, Dr Noor Hisham said 11 were Malaysian citizens while two were foreigners.
Both foreigners - a 66-year-old man at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan and a 42-year-old man at Kuala Lumpur Hospital - were pronounced dead on arrival. - Star
