Court Allows Macc To Seize More Assets Belonging To Daim S Family
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has allowed the MACC to seize seven properties belonging to former finance minister Daim Zainuddin’s family.
Among those seized, via an ex parte application, are three luxury homes in London and one bank account, said to be worth RM758.2 million.
Deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat confirmed the ruling made by judge Azhar Abdul Hamid.
According to Berita Harian today, the assets are among the items being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act (Amla) and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amlatfpuaa).
MACC made the application under Section 53 of Amlatfpuaa for investigation under Section 4 (1) of the same Act.
Mahadi told the media that the luxury homes seized were located in Bryanston Square and Bryanston Mews – purchased on Jan 8, 2021, for £37.87 million (RM217 million) and the other is in Lancaster Gate – bought on the same day for £31.15 million.
Also seized were two residential units located in Gloucester Place, purchased on Jan 8, 2021, for £8.095 million and a bank account.
Other assets seized included a commercial building located in St Mary Axe, London - bought in July 2013 for £23.7 million and the other is located in One Crown Court, 66 Cheapside, London - purchased in October 2014 for £31.5 million.
Undeclared assets
On May 22, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said he was pushing for any of Daim’s undeclared assets to be seized and surrendered to the government.

MACC chief Azam BakiHe said his team had received information about such assets owned by Daim, his family, and associates.
“If it is true that such assets were not declared, that is an offence. Even though Daim has passed away, we will suggest that the assets be forfeited to the government.
“It would then be up to prosecutors to decide,” he added. - Mkini
